Summary

Koehler Kraft on Shelter Island in San Diego has positions open for immediate employment! We are a small team of skilled tradesmen and we need more skilled people who have experience working in a boatyard. We are looking for an all around boatyard tech who has experience working in a boatyard repairing recreational boats. 

 

Job Tasks

• Assist with crane and marine railway operations, haul outs, maintenance, and cleaning.

• Pressure washing

• Bottom Painting: applying anti-foulant coatings on boat hulls including surface preparation and primers. 

• Application of epoxy resin systems and associated fillers, sanding, and fairing.

• All aspects of marine systems service and repair (Examples of service items include: thru hulls, plumbing, electrical, cutlass bearings, pulling props/shafts, packing glands, etc.)

• Assist in boatbuilding tasks

• Assist with yard and facility upkeep, maintenance, and cleaning.

 

Responsibilities and Duties

• Operation of the following equipment:

  • Conventional lattice boom crane (P&H TC 90)

  • Two drum draw works for the marine railway

  • 2000 lb & 6000 lb forklifts

• Assist with crane and marine railway operations.

• Oversee yard maintenance and cleaning.

• Responsible for yard and facility upkeep, maintenance, and cleaning

• Oversee maintenance and logs required of hydro-washer, railway system, and crane.

• Ensure daily procedures are successfully completed and logbooks are up to date.

 

Qualifications and Skills

• 1 -- 3+ years working in a boatyard.

• Ability to lift heavy item such as boat stands & blocking in different positions. 

• Able to work on hands and knees for long periods of time.

• Must own tools needed for the job OR willing to purchase tools as needed (ie. Drill, grinder, shop vac, hand tools, etc).

• Willing to learn on the job AND on your own time. 

• Candidate MUST have comprehensive working knowledge of epoxy, epoxy fairing compounds, fiberglass repair, antifouling paints, and application thereof.

• Make the commitment to the disciplines of your trade and hone skills to be a member of a successful team.

• Full time job. Must be available Monday - Friday from 7:30am - 4:00pm.

• Strong communication skills, English required.

• Must be able to tie basic knots (i.e. bowline, trucker's hitch, rolling hitch. . .etc.)

• Strong work ethic, self starter, able to solve problems on your own and desire to work as a member of a fast paced team.

• Strong sailing/boating experience preferred.

• Experience with Marine Railway a bonus.

The qualified applicant will work under the direct supervision of the yard foreman and service manager.

 

Job Type: Full-time

 

Salary: Negotiable depending on skills and qualifications (Range $30,000 - $60,000/year)
