General Manager


Koehler Kraft is looking to fill a full-time management position to oversee boatyard operations, a small administrative staff, and small yard production crew.


Are you a marine industry professional with boatyard experience and good leadership skills? Koehler Kraft, San Diego’s oldest boatyard is seeking a general manager. Manage a small dedicate team of hardworking skilled professionals on unique and interesting work. 


Salary range $60k-$80k annually plus performance incentives.


Job Description

Manage daily boatyard operations with small administrative team (boatyard foreman and office personnel). Includes scheduling, sales, employee resource allocation, customer interaction, writing work orders, preparing estimates, and other associated tasks with professional operation of the facility. 


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Create and maintain a daily and weekly schedule to assign human resources to tasks. Coordinate tasks for all personnel to ensure efficient work flow.

  • Maintain a calendar for forecasting production work monthly.

  • Manage administrative staff, productivity, and sales to meet target profit.

  • Communicate with customers as a knowledgeable industry professional. Create progress reports and change orders as necessary.

  • Communicate with boatyard personnel to schedule jobs and ensure resources and materials are available for existing and upcoming work.

  • Oversee Foreman and yard employees to ensure they stay on task and within budget.

  • Work directly with Yard Foreman to ensure all responsibilities are completed.

  • Provide input to HR Manger for job descriptions as needed including determining the need for personnel changes.

  • Check that daily tasks are completed

  • Ensure daily responsibilities of Yard Foreman and Facilities Manager have been fulfilled.


Qualifications and Skills

  • Five years minimum experience working in a boatyard.

  • General knowledge of standard marine repair practices including paint, structural repairs, mechanical and electrical work.

  • General knowledge of the operations of recreational sail and motor boats and associated terminology.

  • Five years minimum experience in a management leadership position.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Familiar with Quickbooks.

  • Communications skills both written and verbal.

  • Self-motivated, able to work independently, with strong leadership skills.

  • Ability to problem solve in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
