BOATYARD OPERATIONS & EQUIPMENT MANAGER (YARD FOREMAN)

Our growing company is seeking a responsible and motivated individual to join our team in a key position. The Forman position is an essential part of a successful operation. The Forman will work hands on with the team to ensure the boatyard equipment and facility are in top operation and prepared for the duties at hand.

 

Job Description

This is a hands on position with opportunity for the right person to earn $100k+ per year. This position will maintain smooth daily operations. The Forman will coordinate with the Service Manager to schedule use of equipment and facilities in advance in order to assure that they are prepared for upcoming jobs. This position also performs checks to equipment and facility and, if applicable, will start and warm up equipment prior to use. The Foreman will be the primary operator of all boatyard heavy equipment especially operation of the 90 ton conventional crane and marine railway.

 

A typical day will involve maintaining and preparing and operating equipment for hauling boats to or from the water and completing repairs and/or maintenance to customer boats. An example of a typical day would be assuring cradles’ wheels for the marine railway are greased and operational as per maintenance check list. Then hauling and/or launching boats. This position will also performing routine marine repair tasks such as, changing thru hulls, installing hardware, over seeing bottom painting, etc.

 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Operation of the following equipment:

  • Oversee yard maintenance and cleaning.

  • Responsible for yard and facility upkeep, maintenance, and cleaning

  • Oversee maintenance and logs required of hydro-washer, railway system, and crane.

  • Ensure daily procedures are successfully completed and logbooks are up to date.

  • Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • Must be competent in the operation of a 90 ton lattice boom crane.

  • Must have NCCCO LBT Crane certificate or able to pass the test.

  • Must have prior experience hauling and launching boats with slings.

  • Must have experience operating a marine railway and the associated draw works.

  • Basic mechanical knowledge to be able to maintain the equipment.

  • Understand the operation & maintenance of portable and stationary equipment such as: pressure washers table saw, band saw, etc

  • Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and hydraulic systems.

  • 3 – 5+ years Boatyard experience a must.

  • Ability to lift heavy item such as boat stands & blocking in different positions.

  • Able to work on hands and knees for long periods of time.

  • Strong sailing/boating experience helpful.

  • Must be able to tie basic knots (i.e. bowline, trucker’s hitch, rolling hitch...etc.)

Job Type: Full-time

 

Salary: Negotiable depending on skills and qualifications (Range $60,000 - $100,000+/year)
