1962 William Atkins Marconi Schooner 30'

Maid of Kent is a 30’ LOD William Atkin design Marconi cruising schooner. The design was published in MotorBoating magazine in 1930.  She was built by Willard Boatworks of Costa Mesa in 1962 and moved to San Diego Bay in 1966.  Maid of Kent was a founding member of the Ancient Mariners Sailing Society (AMSS) in 1975, and is the only founding flag member boat still actively sailing with the AMSS.  The current owners acquired Maid of Kent in 1981 and are the third owners.  They have cruised Maid of Kent from Manzanillo Mexico to the Channel Islands in California.  She is also actively sailed in classic yacht races in Southern California.

Over the winter 2016 and spring 2017, Maid of Kent was completely replanked with Sapele wood, edge glued and encapsulated over the original apetong frames.  Frame, floor and stem repairs were angelique and steel hull fasteners and drifts were replaced with bronze and T316 stainless steel.  The rebuild was completed in 5 months and Maid of Kent was relaunched 2 days prior to the 2017 America’s Schooner Cup; she placed second in class.
