Boat Facts: Sally, a 10-meter, was one of 14 nearly identical vessels commissioned by a group of gentlemen from the New York Yacht Club. Built and launched in 1927 at Abeking-Rasmussen yard in northern Germany, she and her sister ships were brought by steamship to Nova Scotia where they were then sailed to the United States. The significance of the “10-meter” demarcation pertains not to her 59’ length or her 80’ mast height, but rather to an involved formula created to force the yachts designers to conform to certain design criteria. Only 3 of the original hulls remain. CF Koehler rescued Sally and got her sailing again after a year of plank replacements, new teak decks, interior woodwork and a new engine.
Type of Construction: Wood hull. Mahogany over oak & steel frame
