CF Koehler, Sr. at the christening of the new Port of San Diego Patrol Boat

Archives

Koehler Kraft Company (originally Mercury Marine) was founded in 1938 as a builder of a popular line of mahogany sport fishing boats and racing runabouts. Clarence Koehler Sr. moved the yard to its current Shelter Island location in 1952. In 1956, Koehler Kraft built the first San Diego Harbor patrol and rescue boat. At the time, this ultra-modern craft boasted radar and fire-fighting capabilities with a top speed of over 40 knots. (still faster than the current fleet).
